Guide

Do I Need a Visa for Australia?

Apart from New Zealanders (who can get a visa on arrival), everyone else has to apply for a visa or authorization before they travel to Australia. For short-term visits, you can get an eVisitor, an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA), or a visitor visa, depending on your nationality

Australia Visa Photo Requirements

Your visa photo should follow these guidelines:

Photos should not be older than six months.

The photo size has to be 35mm to 40mm wide and 45mm to 50mm high.

The photo background should be plain, preferably white background.

The photo should be high quality. The lighting should be uniform with no shadows and reflections. Images have to be clear and focused, with no red eyes. No editing is allowed including removing a mole, scar, or background irregularities.

Subject’s face must be centered and fully visible. You must hold a neutral expression without smiling, laughing, or frowning and your eyes should remain open and your mouth closed. You must stare directly at the camera. Your entire face should be clearly visible, meaning that your hair has to be off your face.

Head or face accessories are not allowed. Sunglasses, tinted glasses, hats, and other head accessories are not allowed (unless for religious purposes).

How Can I Get an Australian Visa?

You can get an Australian visa online or through an Australian Embassy/Consulate, depending on your nationality:

You apply for the eVisitor through the Australian Department of Home Affairs’ online service.

You apply for the Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) through the official ETA portal of the Australian Department of Home Affairs.

You may apply for an Australian visa either online or in-person at an Embassy or Consulate.

Australia Visa Photo Requirements for Infants

When you take a picture of your child, the photos must follow these specifications:

For children under three years old with open mouths, the photo is acceptable.

No other person should be visible.

The child has to be looking straight at the camera.
